Just few minutes away from Maurovouni’s beach you will find the town of Gythio.
Gythio is a historical town and port locatedin the southern Peloponnese near the mouth of the river Eurotas , west of the inlet of the Laconic gulf. It is built on the easter slopes of mount Larysio and is the main port of the Laconic gulf and the second in the southernt Peloponnese after Kalamata.
The southern edge of the city is connected through a small pier with a small island named Kranai or Marathonisi. There you can find Tzanetaki’s tower , the homonym octagonal lighthouse (lighthouse Kranai) and the small temple Saint Nikolaos.
Gythio is a beautiful town with island colors , there you can find plenty of shops as taverns , restaurants , cafe bars for your entertainment as well as shops with traditional products and clothes for your shopping.
The imposing two-storey and three-storey neoclassical buildings bear witness to the glory of the past and the traditional houses , the picturesque staircases and beautiful churches, the harbor with the lively marble waterfront, sailboats and fishing boats create a unique residential complex .
