Six Km northwest of Sparta , on a rocky hillside of North Taygetos there is Mystras castle. Mystra’s rock with its conical and sharp form offered by itself a great natural fortress.
Today Mystras , closes inside its walls four abandoned settlements with great post-Byzantine churches , houses and palaces. Since 1989 by decision of Unesco , Mystras is registered as a cultural object among the liost of World Cultural Heritage.
Fortificatios , Byzantine churches and palaces , mansions , houses , ancient small streets are just some of the reasons why Mystras everyday atracts hundrends of visitors. It also provides valuable insights of the development and culture of Byzantium. Two centuries on the stage of history , it composed a unique path of glory , helping on our historic ,cultural and social development.
